Tips to Make Achieving Your Weight Loss Goals

Losing weight is difficult at the best of times. Between staying motivated, eating the right things (forget about knowing what to eat) and dragging yourself out to the gym when you should be going, keeping on track with your weight loss program can be a lot easier. We will look at five easy tips to make your weight loss program easier, more enjoyable and more attainable.

  • Find a workout buddy and arrange a friendly competition. Nothing keeps passion strong and alive than a bit of competition. Human relationships, competitive sports, business, and almost everything else in the world is driven by competition. It keeps us alive. Incorporating competition in your weight loss program is a great way to make things easier and more enjoyable. Consider a weight-loss goal, a weight-lifting goal, a distance goal; just set a goal and compete with your workout buddy to achieve that goal.
  • Set milestones and monitor your progress. Like the competition recommendation above, setting milestones is a way to compete with yourself. Be realistic, however. There is nothing more demoralizing than setting an unrealistic goal that you cannot achieve in the first place. If you want to aim for weight-loss milestone, a realistic goal would be roughly 1.5 pounds lost per week, or 6 pounds lost by the end of the month. As well, increasing bicep weight curls would probably see a maximum gain of 20 pounds. Don't be unrealistic.
  • Reward yourself for following your program, but allow for some leniency. For example, you might want to allow yourself a day of unscheduled indulgence if you stay on your program for a specified amount of time. If you are to work out six days out of seven, you might want to allow yourself a day at the bakery if you are able to maintain this rigid schedule for three straight weeks. This makes it easier to get to the gym, to wake up in the morning, to eat properly, etc..
  • Broadcast your achievements and struggles. Even if you are not one to toot your own horn when you are spending time with family and friends, consider blogging about your achievements, your struggles, and everything else in between when it comes to your weight loss program. In many cases, just talking about your problems will help; in other cases, you may be able to obtain additional encouragement.
  • Incorporate a true period of relaxation at the end of a full schedule rotation. If your program is a 14-day rotating program, remember to indulge in an activity of true relaxation on your last day. That may include a full body massage, a night spent in front of the television, or whatever it might be that can help you enjoy that last day. This may seem trivial, but a lot of people forget to do this. In doing it, however, you may feel like you are enjoying an extra day of relaxation at the end of your workout rotation.

By incorporating these five easy tips, you will find that conquering your weight loss goals is not only achievable but actually enjoyable. And isn't this what losing weight and turning the page on your new lifestyle be all about?
