Andre Agassi known as the "Wild Child" in the Tennis World Admits to methamphetamine addiction in his new book
NORCROSS, GA, November 08, 2009 In a shocking announcement yesterday tennis superstar Andre Agassi revealed that at one time he was addicted to methamphetamine. Methamphetamine or meth as it is commonly called is a powerful stimulant and is highly addictive. Agassi retired from tennis in 2006 and his book, Open, chronicles his life and the time from 1997 and 1999 that he was addicted to methamphetamine.
Agassi was born in Las Vegas in 1970 and has always been known for his unconventional apparel and attitude. His charm and appeal was responsible for a huge increase in the number of tennis fans in the 1990's and he's also won an Olympic Gold Medal, 60 singles championships overall and 17 ATP Masters Series tournaments. Andre has done a lot to help others as well by raising more than $60 million to help disadvantaged children in the Las Vegas area over his lifetime.
Agassi, in an interview with people.com said, "I can't speak to drug addiction
, but a lot of people would say that if you're using anything as an escape, you have a problem."
The revelation that the tennis star was using drugs may shock some, but the drug use came at a time when Agassi's career was in a slump. The drug turned an amazing sports star into a common drug addict. This should be a warning to all young people; "Stay away from drugs".
Methamphetamines are called the Devil's drug or Hitler's revenge for good reason. While it is uncomfortable to face the evils of this drug, life for methamphetamine users and their families, is far more uncomfortable if the drug use does not stop.
Like it or not, families must deal with the hard core facts of methamphetamine abuse and the trail of devastation left behind if we are to prevent the coming of a new "Ice Age."
