As Internet marketers and social media users / practitioners we are always digging and trying to find out more. Since most of what is related to social media is happening on the fly the innovation comes more often from good intention rather than good planning. One common theme that occurs, however, is the apparent lack of understanding of social media and its business impact in the upper levels of most companies.

If you have an ecommerce business, you’re almost certainly doing ad and marketing campaigns. But if you aren’t taking the time to track and study trends in consumer preferences, you may be just spinning your wheels besides wasting a lot of your advertising dollars. If you’ve never read Freakonomics , the excellent book by economist Steven Levitt, a brilliant Chicago economist, and Stephen Dubner, a journalist you should.

Almost everyone from interactive advertising agencies to any web advertising agency worth its salt to business owners who are looking to turn their online presence into a revenue-generating business venture has heard of “search engine optimization”, although they all may have half baked ideas about what exactly it entails. Here is the wonderful  Montreal City Weblog that does 99.9% of our Montreal-focused work for us. While it also covers aspects that do not interest us – readers will have remarked on our avoidance of organized sport topics with a few rare exceptions (we consider politics a dis-organized sport) – it is full of current news and information, along with some excellent links and several years’ worth of weekly archives.
