I can remember that the majority homes did not have air conditioning and many folks spent summers outside or with all windows open. Crime was not widespread and folks felt safe, the doors of the house where your grandmother and I lived were not even locked when we were away from home.
Thanks to the GI Bill (Veterans Administration), I was able to enjoy a low-interest housing loans and assistance with down payments. I think I purchased our first home back in 1951 with the GI Bill.
