Foreclosure filings have spiked in recent months, and foreclosed homes make up a larger percentage of properties for sale, experts say.

Daren Blomquist, a spokesman for RealtyTrac Inc., said foreclosure filings in Fairfield County increased 48 percent when comparing the first 11 months of 2007 and 2008.

The numbers are even more striking locally -- in Danbury, foreclosure filings are up 133 percent for that time period, the largest increase for any municipality in the county.

Bridgeport has the highest number of foreclosures in Fairfield County, with 2,388 in the first 11 months of the year, a 36 percent increase over the same period last year.
